It has been a nice summer ...

It has been a nice summer here at the House on the Cove - great weather for the most part, with onshore breezes on our few hot days, which made even those days comfortable. We have been hiking, some trails we have done before, some that are new to us. All have been fun. We have read (Mama Bear read the entire Clare Fergusson series and misses her now-favorite heroine) and played on our computers. Mama Bear planted some wild flower seeds in late May (after all dangers of frost were past) and some have actually grown, so we are enjoying them greeting us when we arrive home after an outing. We have attended concerts (Emma Walsh is a young violinist with great talent, the Summer Chorale in Bar Harbor was breathtaking to hear.) We celebrated our wedding anniversary in Boston with Baby Bear and Boo Boo and the Boston Red Sox. It was a lovely time of good company and good food and good activities. We were delighted to have had houseguests from the House on the Creek area (the Kind Woman with the Sword and the Kind Sometimes Sword-Bearing Physics Prof), had a visit from Baby Bear (she and Mama Bear climbed The Beehive - for Mama Bear, a wonderful and challenging climb that small children and Baby Bear do with ease), and Mama Bear went for her girlfriend's weekend (this year to see the Ben and Jerry's factory in Waterbury, VT and to do some kayaking on a lake near Waterbury.) Mama Bear has been training to do a run with Baby Bear in October, though she is not certain how well her own training is going at the moment (Baby Bear is doing great in her training!) Papa Bear has a new camera and continues to take great pictures. We have determined where some places and people on the Island and in the area are located (for example, we found Brown's Farm were there is meat from popover-fed pigs available for sale). We went to a movie in Ellsworth, made one trip to Bangor, are good customers of Amazon, and are preparing to visit Scotland later this year. Papa Bear has a new electronic device - an Android-based Pad!! As it is new, other than acquiring it and getting it setup, we do not know yet which device will be his primary. Mama Bear is enrolled in a cooking class in October and hopes to take other classes when the winter schedule for Acadia Senior College is announced later this year. She also hopes to join the nearby community center after the Scotland trip to have a place for physical activity this winter. And she is planning a trip to see her mom, likely in early November. There have been few posts to this blog this summer as not much has been new - how many ways are there to describe the Ship's Harbor Trail?? Likely many, but Mama Bear has not been feeling that creative of late ... However, Mama Bear has missed writing, and recognizes that the adventure of our first winter on Island (most recent advice from a local: wool is your friend!) might be worth sharing, so expect more posts as summer gives way to fall and winter.
